Ruth Kramer, MNN Executive Producer and Host

As a news director for a local radio station in the Lansing, MI area, Ruth Kramer never dreamed she’d be where she is today.

When asked in 1997 if she would consider a job writing about missions, she wasn’t so sure. “I’d been behind a news desk since my first paid story in 1985 and ‘missions’ was boring.”

But it didn’t take long for Ruth to get hooked. “My first interview out of the gate was with someone on the ground who explained the context of the situation they were in, the concerns about the government policies and the concern about the impact on the people they were reaching with the hope of Christ… and that stuck in my brain.” Grasping the link between current events and the spread of the Gospel something clicked for Ruth.

“And then God, with His unique sense of humor, lit a fire in my heart for Africa… the continent I was pretty sure I never wanted to visit.” She adds, “Gone were the aspirations of network TV, national radio syndication talk shows, etc. In its place, a desire to tell the stories of what God is doing in His people today… and I got the added benefit of [my new work with MNN] still being about news, current events and on an internationally syndicated network, to boot.”

What does Ruth love most about serving with MNN?

“At the end of the day, the stories we publish matter. The broadcasts, the webcasts, all of the widgets we spend eight hours a day making, they matter in the economy of God’s kingdom. We serve as a catalyst to the Church to help them understand their ‘grace to do’. Pray, give, go. When we help people plug in, it’s a hugely satisfying feeling.”
